I really don’t know what to make of Mili Ponce and her Social Media Profits system.

She has earned herself quite a good reputation as being ‘one of the most sought after social media experts in the world’, who often speaks at conferences and seminars all over the world.

She claims to have made over two million pounds from marketing through social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

In the article preceding an interview with Mili Ponce, Carly Taylor from socialdivamarketing.com says of her: ‘It’s funny because Mili Ponce was the interview I was most intrigued about because of her notoriety … [but] it was like chatting to a friend. That is the beauty of Mili and why people love her so much… Because they can RELATE to her. There is no hype. No drama or sugar coated nonsense, just straightforward advice and solutions and a real warmth that shines through. I can see why she is so popular.’

You see my issue with her is that her sales-page for her Social Media Profits course is crammed full of hype and drama. It’s really one of the worst I’ve ever seen. By the end of the over-long sales patter (6,800 words – I kid you not – I used to write essays half that length during my English Literature degree!), you have little idea of what she’s selling, other than it’s some sort of ongoing course about making money through social media sites, in particular Twitter.

She spends 2,500 words giving us her life-story, emphasising how hard it was coming from Peru to live in Cambridge and bringing up her daughter, working five jobs at all hours of the day, and then says: ‘Now to cut a long story short’! …Let me just quote that again, out of sheer disbelief: ‘Now to cut a long story short’! Five-hundred words for your back-story would have been cutting it short! She goes on to talk about a seminar she went to about ‘Financial Freedom’, which was the catalyst for her to pursue money-making in the social-media world.

‘Within my first 25 DAYS I banked US$800 playing around with it… By the 5th MONTH I was banking US$10,000 A MONTH… In MONTH 6 I banked US$50,000 in just an hour using it… And together with a friend of mine, in just 9 MONTHS had taken over:- ONE MILLION DOLLARS!’

No hype? I don’t know about you but I equate SHOUTY CAPITAL LETTERS to hype.

She then provides screenshots of ‘proof’ of earnings, lists the bonuses you’ll get and offers the course at an ongoing cost of £29.95 a month. This is quite an expense, month-on-month, but if she really has made this amount of money, I was intrigued, despite the fact she has given nothing away about how she actually makes the money.

A couple of days later I received two DVDs (each lasting about 35 minutes), an audio CD (10 minutes) and the first module (80-page booklet). This consisted of an introduction to social media sites and how you can build up followings to promote your businesses and products through. It still did not tell me about the system Mili uses to make her money.

So far, so pedestrian. Obviously, you have to commit to payment to learn anything of any use.

So, after accessing Module 2, perhaps I’m being a bit harsh, but I wasn’t overly blown away. She clearly is an expert in the field and much of what she says makes sense. She shares her knowledge of how best to build up your followers on Twitter and ‘likes’ on Facebook, and when I implemented this, I did see some results.

However, I do not like the nature of this product, in that I have to pay £29.95 a month and am never sure exactly what I’ll be getting next and if it will be of any real use to me. I can foresee myself working my way through each month’s module, siphoning out the filler to locate those golden nuggets of information. I wouldn’t mind so much if it was half this price, but I really can’t see it being worth the money. £29.95 a month soon adds up and I cannot see how I’ll be making the predicted $10,000 within five months.
